About : Barbara

Welcome to Miladysboudoir! I’m Barbara and I live just a few miles west of Leeds, Yorkshire. I love to travel and to read. For many years I have been posting my pictures on Flickr. This blog just evolved from that. I was linking to too much information and wanting to make more personal comments about where I’d been, what I’d seen and related books and so on. Thank you for looking and I hope you will enjoy your visit!

I wanted to let you know that I’ve “nominated” you for the Sunshine Blogger award. http://greatacre.wordpress.com/2012/06/23/and-the-nominations-are/

As I was nominated I decided to continue the chain and use it as a way of expressing recoginition to some bloggers I enjoy reading. And yours was an obvious choice

  2. Hi Mick

Thank you for your comments to my posts and I am glad you enjoy reading miladys. I also enjoy reading your ‘witterings on about stuff’ very much. Although I don’t often comment. I don’t know what to do about this very flattering nomination. I feel rather a sad so-and-so if I decline it which is my initial reaction. I wouldn’t want to post about it as that’s not a ‘category’ of mine if you know what I mean. On the other hand I certainly don’t want to offend.

Thanks again for being a ‘fan’

    Best wishes

    Barbara

I browsed Your many posts and Your blog is a quality blog! Your texts are inspiring and photos great.

  4. Hello! Just saw that you live near Leeds. I’ll be arriving there for Christmas and am planning on going to Harewood. Did you go last year when they decided to open right up to Christmas?

  5. Well, just company then ….

  6. Hello Barbara, I’ve had a request from a client to use some of the super photos you took of “Women and the Great War” at Scorton, to advertise their upcoming presentation of the same. Is this agreeable to you? And if so, would you be so kind as to email them to me? It would be hugely appreciated. Thanks, as ever, for your support!

Hello Barbara, I came across your blog while researching Lyme. I am going to attend one of Natalie Manifold’s weekends in October. I wanted to know more about Jane Austen and much enjoyed your post. I also would like to know more about Beatrix Potter. Did you ever write up the information about Potter in Lyme? I’d love to read it.

  8. Hello Annabel, thank you for reading and posting a comment here. I also received Natalie’s email about the Jane Austen event to be held in October. Sadly, I can’t be there and also, unfortunately, I haven’t been back in Lyme Regis since August 2012 but I will definitely return sometime as I expect to stay at Belmont (the Landmark Trust property once the home of John Fowles) when booking opens. In that case I will definitely dig out my notes and pictures of Beatrix Potter’s visit to Lyme. If you get to the excellent Lyme Regis Museum you can find out more for yourself. Delighted to have you along and I hope to be travelling and posting again very soon. I have lots of plans for 2015. Best wishes and enjoy the JA party. Watch this space, as they say! Barbara

Thank you Barbara. I’m looking forward to reading more of your posts. Sorry we won’t be meeting this October, but will keep tabs on you through your blog. All the best. Annabel (from Malta; full of literary links: Sir Walter Scott, Edward Lear and so many others!)

  10. Malta! How very interesting. Thanks, again, Annabel

  11. I’ve been enjoying your blog instead of doing my work! Thanks so much for sharing such interesting material and great photos. It’s great to see a kindred spirit.

Hello Barbara, your blog is very wonderful . . .

Do you think you would be able to upload the photographs on your page Death in Rome : The Protestant Cemetery

    https://miladysboudoir.wordpress.com/2015/03/24/death-in-rome-the-protestant-cemetery-and-the-catacombs-of-san-callisto/

of Martin Boyd’s gravestone to WikiCommons ?

This is the web page where you start:
    https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard

I could then place them on the page of his Wikipedia article :
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Boyd

I had linked your blog within the article in this edit on 30th July

    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Martin_Boyd&oldid=673740265

but Wikipedia rules state that blogs cannot be referenced and that edit has been undone.

I think you have to state that the photograph is your own work and that it is available for fair use within Wikipedia.

I am sure one of the photographs would enhance the page very much, Barbara.

    Sincerely,
    Laurence Beck

  13. Thank you for your comment here, Laurence. I’m not a member of Wikipedia so unable to post directly.
You are welcome to add photos which are posted on Flickr.

If these links don’t work I’ll be happy to forward to you directly.
Best wishes and thank you for your interest,

  14. Hi,
It is myself that has “The Second World War in Northern Ireland” Website.
This is my hobby and I am always updating the site so please keep watching and I hope I will be able to provide more information about Newtownbutler.
    Thanks,
    Andy

    • Hello Andy
Thank you for getting in touch and reminding me to keep checking your website for more information about Newtownbutler. I still haven’t had a chance to go through the several shoe boxes of photos which I brought home with me after mum moved into her sheltered flat. Hopefully I’ll do this during the winter months. If I come across anything relating to dad’s time in Northern Ireland I will make contact with you and with Selwyn. I have tentative thoughts about another trip to Lough Erne next year but more likely to be the lower part, White Island etc.
      Thanks again,
      Barbara

Hello Barbara, great blog! I’m a photography student and find your pictures inspiring. I was wondering whether you went through any photography courses and if you didn’t, did you simply practise?

  16. Christie McC says:

    Hello,

I’m working on a video highlighting the best airports around the world and found your photos of Schiphol. I was wondering if I could get your permission to use the photos for the video?

Please email me with any questions!

What Ho, Barbara! Just in case you’ve not seen the latest news at Plumtopia, you’ve won a copy of Highballs for Breakfast! If you email me your postal address to mrsplum@hotmail.com I’ll deliver it.

  18. What ho! my dear Honoria. Much delight has been expressed in Milady’s household as the Second Winner was announced (we like to look on it as 1st equal, but there you go). My reaction was immediate and you should now have full details of the location of the Boudoir in your Inbox. Many thanks, what good Yuletide fun, eh? Barbara
